Flight Plan

Flight Plan

If you are planning a flight for more than 3 hours and you want to feel good when you disembark, be smart about what you consume. Having a flight plan is a good idea.

There is nothing worse than arriving at your holiday destination and wasting your first day because your body clock is out of sync.

You don’t need to have an over complicated plan – just a little preparation can make all the difference.

Simple Flight Plan

Pre-Flight

From six to 12 hours before a flight, avoid excess salt and processed foods. Go for salads in summer and soups in winter that will give your body nutrients to make you feel good. Fill up with broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi, oranges, papaya, sweet potato, strawberries and tomatoes are brilliant.

After you have packed your luggage turn your mind to what you need on the plane.

What to wear

Regardless of the class your are travelling in, dress for comfort but that does not mean sloppy.

On the Plane wear your:

  • Heaviest shoes and your biggest jacket – this will reduce your checked-in luggage weight;
  • A zip jumper/cardigan/wrap that you can take on and off when the temperature in the plane fluctuates;
  • Comfortable t-shirt and trousers;
  • If you take your shoes off have some not slip socks/slippers on so if you have to go to the toilet your feet are not going to get wet.

Entertainment / Comfort

  • Phone, charged with the airline app uploaded;
  • Phone charger;
  • Noise cancelling headphones;
  • Neck pillow;
  • Pen (NOT a pencil).

Mid-Flight

Take healthy snacks with you. Make your own trail mix: combine a couple of squares of dark chocolate with raw almonds, cashews and goji berries, crackers, avocado and fresh dates. Depending on your destination you might not be able to take some foods with you when you disembark, so don’t overdo it. If you have the option with airline food choose steamed meals. Limit your alcohol intake to one or two glasses and drink lots of water. If available try a Bloody Mary, even if it’s not something you would normally drink.

Post-Flight

Load your meals with lots of vegetables to get your nutrients up and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

If you have a really long flight ahead of you a flight plan is great to make sure you start your holiday at your best.
