Baked Beans
Baked Beans are the ultimate comfort food, after pizza, of course!
Serve these little beauties as a side with Oven Baked Sausages, at your next BBQ or with Slow Cooked Pork. You might like to try our Easy BBQ Sauce recipe instead of using store-bought (once you see how much sugar is in the store-bought you’ll want to try this recipe).
If you don’t have a slow cooker you can use a casserole dish and cook in the oven on 150C for 8 hours.
Slow Cookers are a great investment – especially during the winter months. You can get them for under $50.
Baked Beans
Equipment
- Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 1 can Borlotti beans drained
- 1 tbsp canola or vegetable oil
- 250 g bacon chopped
- 1 brown onion chopped
- 2 garlic cloves crushed
- ⅓ cup brown vinegar
- ½ cup BBQ Sauce
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- ½ tsp dried chilli flakes
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the beans
- In a frying pan, add the oil and fry the onion (7 mins)
- Add the Garlic and cook (2 mins)
- Add Bacon and cook (3 – 4 mins)
- Transfer the mixture to a slow cooker, add the rest of the ingredients
- Cook on low 12 hours or on high for 8 hours

- The beans can be kept in the fridge for up to a week, you may need to add a little water when you are reheating to loosen them up.
