BBQ Sauce

Once you find out how much sugar there is in bottled sauce - you'll want to try this!

Equipment

  • Food Processor or hand blender
  • Sterilzed Jars

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh tomatoes very ripe, halved
  • 150 g red onion rouhly chopped
  • 1 fresh red chilli roughly chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 4 tbsp tomato paste
  • 100 ml balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 50 ml maple syrup
  • 2 tsp worchestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp ground smoky paprika
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Put the tomatoes and onion in a food processor and blend until smooth. Or use a hand blender if you have one.
  • In a heavy based pan add a glug of oil and all of the ingredients
  • Bring to the boil then lower to simmer for 45 mins, stir occasionally
  • Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool
  • Spoon into sterilzed jars or use immediately
