What’s for Dinner?
By setting aside a little time you can plan your weekly dinners with ease. If you have your pantry essentials in stock you only need to buy a few fresh groceries on a weekly basis. Print of the list for the week so you don’t have to ask yourself What’s for Dinner?
Don’t know where to start?
Begin with the basics, alternate with chicken, meat, fish and a couple of vegetarian options throughout the week. Make life easy for yourself by doing a little prepping on Sundays.
Once a month – put on your favourite music and indulge in some long slow cooking. If you are on a budget (and aren’t we all) making your own stock is a huge saver and you get to control the amount of salt added AND it tastes so much better!
The first Sunday of every month:
- cook a huge batch of Spaghetti Bolognese;
- make chicken stock;
- prep curry sauce; and
- write up the menu list for the next week couple of weeks.
It’s not necessary to cook a new dish every week. Just what you like and rotate as you go.
Having a plan feels like you are in control – but you don’t have to stick to it.
1. Overdo it and save $$
Make more than you can eat in one sitting and it will be all the better for lunch tomorrow. Save your cash and your waistline by having last night’s leftovers for lunch instead of having a takeaway.
2. Love your freezer
Don’t be afraid of the freezer, as long as you label things properly you are set for when you are time-poor. Snap frozen vegetables or frozen fish are quick and easy options. You’ll find lots of freezer-friendly meals in our recipes section.
3. Step away from the stove
Get away from the stove top whenever you can – if you can pop something in the oven when you get home from work and microwave some steamed veggies the longer you can spend enjoying life.
4. Go Digital
Use an on-line shopping program, Coles and Woolworths have great FREE online apps, as soon as you run out of something, add it to the online shopping list. You don’t need to order through the online tool but if you are at the shops you can quickly access the app on your phone.
Use the online app to order bulk items like toilet paper, laundry detergents etc once a month to save yourself from getting caught in the car park by your crush with a 24 pack of loo roll.
5. Wipe and Go
Pop the What’s for Dinner? printable in a glass frame and you can write your meals on the glass and wipe away each week AND it looks great! If you live in a house share you can all agree on a dish for the evening, our recipes are really easy and tasty so anyone can make.
