Cleaning Routine
One of the worst things about renting is the frequent rental inspections. If you keep on top of your cleaning it can be less of a hassle and reduced the likelihood of you getting a judgy note from the rent inspector.
To avoid mess building up, always carry something with you as you move from room to room. When you leave a room stop and look at what you can take with you, Carry an empty glass from the living room to the kitchen, take your shoes from the entrance to the closet. Little things can make a big job smaller.
Cleaning Routine
If you live with others establish your cleaning expectations up front. If you expect all dishes to be washed and put away after a meal but your flatmate is fine for the dishes to airdry to be put away in the morning then you need to make it clear upfront.
If you see a cockroach scurry across the floor late one night – put EVERYTHING away. Everything.
If you live on your own, then it’s all on you… Do a few things every day to keep your place tidy. Work out what you are going to do once a week or month to keep on top of the spider webs and dust.
The best way to force yourself to clean up is to invite someone you like to come over.
What if I don’t do and End-of-Lease Clean?
In short – you are going to lose your bond and you may incur other cleaning expenses. Also, you might end up on a register that will harm your ability to rent another place.
Best advise is: suck it up, clean it up and jog on…
